2008: CHALLABOROUGH Click on a photo to see a larger version. As we couldn't go abroad this year due to commitments, we decided to have a weeks camping in Devon. We dived out of Bigbury Bay. Due to the club boat being out of commission, we could only use our boat which can only take four divers out at a time. The four divers managed to get out every day although the weather wasn’t 100percent and stopped us doing two dives on some of the days. On the Saturday, we got the boat launched for 8.30 am, did a dive, had a break for lunch, cylinders filled and had a second dive early afternoon. The boat was back in the car park by 2.30pm, unloaded, and we were sitting outside the pub overlooking the beach in glorious sunshine enjoying a pint!! After Tuesday when all the other divers had gone home, Denise and I went for a tour exploring the countryside. We arrived at Hallsands where the sea was like a sheet of glass. We managed to do a shore dive. A good weekend was had by all. In the evenings we enjoyed fish and chips, BBQ's, and on one evening we had a home made chilli. It is an excellent place to dive. It is even better if you stay in the caravans within the bay! There is plenty to do for the whole family. Diving here is much easier now because there is a new dive centre called Tai Dive. They go the extra mile to help you. They have their own tractor and for £10 they will launch and recover your boat. On the way back from a dive, you can call them on the radio and they will meet you to take your cylinders off the boat for filling and be there ready with the trailer to recover the boat. Tai came to us on the campsite one evening to ask if I wanted to join them as Dive Master whilst she took a student in the following day. Due to this, I had a free and enjoyable dive. Denise went on the boat as passenger. People will have to go a long way to beat this set up! PS |
